BOASTING THE WORLD’S LONGEST STALACTITE FORMATION, KARTCHNER CAVERNS INTRODUCES VISITORS TO THE MYSTERIOUS WORLD OF CAVES. EXPLORE THE BOWELS OF A LIVING CAVE AND MARVEL AT ARIZONA’S TALLEST NATURAL COLUMN FORMATION. LOCATED IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA, IT’S JUST A SHORT HOP FROM TUCSON IN NEARBY BENSON.
Discovered in 1974, Kartchner Caverns is a massive limestone cave that’s home to many outstanding features, including remarkable minerals and formations as well as some winged friends.
Take a guided tour for an intimate experience in this incredible underground world, and learn about its delicate ecosystem. The caverns’ stalactites and stalagmites are still developing, so technically, you can see them grow before your very eyes, but that may require microscopic vision.
The Discovery Center is another must-see that further examines the cave. Learn about the bat population and the fossils of dwellers past. Interactive exhibits illustrate how the cave’s formations develop while a multi-screen video transports you back to the discoverers underground journey.
The park offers two camping and RV sites off of the main road past the Discovery Center with electric hookup and water. Camping fees are $25 per night. More RV sites are available in Benson and Tucson.
