Slide Rock State Park

History & Nature

A historic apple orchard in Oak Creek Canyon (just 7 miles from Sedona), was originally the pioneering homestead of Frank L. Pendley. He was more successful than most, establishing his first orchard in 1912 with his innovative irrigation system that is still used by the park today.

The name “Slide Rock” comes from the slippery bottom of the creek next to the homestead. The park has the same strikingly red tones as Sedona’s other famous formations, providing a beautiful and vibrant contract against the crystal water and green, high desert shrubbery.

Things to Do

The creek is open for swimming, wading, floating, and sunning alongside. Visitors can also slide down a natural chute into the pool below – a unique thrill that combines waterpark excitement with outdoor adventure. Hiking trails, fishing, picnic ramadas, and wildlife viewing are also available nearby and throughout Sedona.

Since the park is located in Sedona, visitors have access to a variety of lodging options. The quieter Oak Creek is a very short drive from the park and Sedona, which also offers lodging options.

May – October 31: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

November 1 – January 9: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

February 1 – April 30: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Park Entrance Fees:

• Per Vehicle (1 – 4 Adults): $10 (each additional adult is $3)
